HOKKAIDO wines

Hokkaido island, and more specifically Yoichi region, is increasingly prized by connoisseurs for the quality of its wines.

Yoichi lies between Otaru and the Shakotan peninsula, just 1 hour by train from Sapporo. This terroir is in harmony with nature, a true Japanese wine paradise, as evidenced by the vast vines expanses that cover its meadows and slopes. This terroir is characterized by rolling or mountainous hillsides bordered by a coastline and a cold sea, its black soil rich and full of alluvial deposits.

This region is promising, fertile, with a unique climate of frigid winters and hot, humid summers. Harvest takes place in early October, with the risk of heavy snow. "This climate is a terrible paradox for a land in the making, as snow makes access to vines impossible for part of the year and forces winegrower to abandon winter pruning for a first green pruning, almost to the detriment of vines' rest.

On these hillsides, you'll find family-run businesses, sometimes very small, some producing just a few hundred bottles, passionate people who, freed from family tradition weigh and ancestral customs specific to each appellation, can invent their own wines”.
