  • Gin 424 Classic botanicals

    • In stock
    From €45.00

This gin has two major characteristics. It is the only gin in the world to be made using a wooden still that has been used since the 19th century. This method of distillation is characterised by the high heat retention of the wood. The sweet and salty components are easily distilled. The tubes of the distillation circuit are made of tin. The sulphurous components are eliminated, resulting in a sweet drink. The wooden still gives a smoother and softer appearance to the resulting drink.

LEARNING ABOUT JAPANESE GIN

Your Japanese grocery store Nishikidôri tells you everything

Gin, usually a distilled alcohol with the aroma and flavor of juniper berries, is said to have been created by Italian monks.
These monks subjected juniper berries to wine before distillation to obtain a tincture.

As far as the production of a drinking spirit is concerned, the Dutch were the first to produce a juniper spirit with these berries, based on a malted grain spirit.

But the name GIN was invented by the English at the end of the 17th century, who liked it so much that they developed its production.
Dutch merchants, who traded heavily with Japan, imported juniper berries via the port of Dejima in Nagasaki in the 18th century.

It seems that the very first gin made in Japan appeared in 1812 following the naval blockade at the same time, which prevented imports from Dutch merchant ships.

However, gin production began very recently, around 2015.

Today, the drink is very popular and Japanese gins are beginning to gain recognition.

How to drink Japanese gin?

Japanese gin is drunk like a classic gin, either neat or in a cocktail, dry at room temperature or on the rocks.

What is the composition of Japanese gin?

By definition, a gin can be produced in any country with one condition: using juniper berries and neutral alcohol as a base. The particularity of Japanese gin comes from the use of Japanese products such as yuzu, green tea, sansho pepper or sakura.
