Sweet potatoes are rich in dietary fiber. When you cut sweet potatoes, milky white liquid that runs off the surface is called “Yarapin”(latex). Contained only in sweet potatoes, it protects mucous membrane of the stomach and ensures smooth intestinal transit.

This “Yarapin” is found in abundance, especially in sweet potatoes skin. Because color darkens or texture becomes bad, many companies and families remove skin and throw it away. Wild animals, who know what they need for their bodies, eat skin. It's us humans who throw away this high-quality, nutritious skin, wasting time and money on its appearance.

Throwing away such precious things is not good for the body or earth. At our artisan Kairen, located in the south of Kyushu island, sweet potato is used in its entirety to make this paste, not only flesh, but also nutritious skin. Sweet potatoes are highly capable of absorbing sunlight, grow durably even in volcanic ash, and are resistant to typhoons.

They are the crop best suited to the climate of southern Kyushu. They are rich in nutritional value and are also known as an excellent healthy food ingredient containing plenty of carbohydrates, starch, minerals, vitamins and dietary fiber. Sweet potatoes are rich in vegetable fiber, which also helps relieve constipation. Vegetables and fruit are said to contain an abundance of nutrients between their skin and flesh.
