Bowl in Rāmen, Minoyaki porcelain, fuchitokusa pattern

Fuchi refers to the edge, the edge or the periphery of a form. Tokusa is a fern of the toxopodiaceae family. It is a plant without flowers or leaves, just a stem that grows vertically. This motive has been appreciated since the Edo period (1603-1867) as a symbol of growth and prosperity because of its right form.

The Tokusa is the plant that grows in the courtyard before Japanese homes, with many stems that grow compactly. In the past, it was said that if we polished gold with Tokusa, the glow of gold would be polite and would become even more brilliant. The name of this bowl at Rāmen therefore alludes to its "Tokusa" ferns decoration painted on the upper edges of the bowl.
