Sun Fuji apple is a particularly large variety with a beautiful red or pinkish-red skin. Its flavor is quite complex, with both tart and sweet notes. In fact, Sun Fuji has almost 10% more sugar than most apples by weight. They are much sweeter than regular Fuji because the sunlight that reaches them develops their sugars.
This variety of Fuji apples is grown using a bagless method, which means that each apple is generously bathed in sunlight while growing to maturity - hence the name "Sun Fuji". It is considered the crème de la crème among premium apples in Japan. In terms of cultivation techniques, in addition to no bagging, the growers also harvest late to ensure that each apple fully ripens on the tree.
