"溜 TAME" is a color and is used to describe the color of the bowls. Tame-Nuri is a type of lacquering technique used for finishing lacquer objects in the same way as Kuro-Nuri (black) and Shu-Nuri (scarlet red).

The most common color of the Tame-Nuri is that of the azuki or the crea (both are deep red purple sorts), unique color of the lacquer objects.

Tame-Nuri is a sweet color loved by all Japanese.

There is a version of the story that the name "溜 TAME" comes from the color of the soy sauce Tamari.

The soy sauce Tamari is used for Sashimis and Teriyaki sauce, and it is rich in flavor and color.

Tamari lacquered objects are very popular not only in Japan but also in other countries because of their "Japanese" flavor like soy sauce.
