Gin was the first Western spirit to be produced in Japan, introduced to Japan by the Dutch trading enclave on the island of Dejima, Nagasaki Bay, during the Edo period (1603–1867). The first distillation attempts took place in 1812 under the gin appellation.

Tasting notes

The refreshing top note is yuzu citrus, followed by shiso and the flavours of sweet green tea.

The finish gives way to the spicy, lively heat of Arima sansho, then the layered flavours of juniper berries and camphor tree.

Description

Kobe Yama gin is the first GIN from the Kobe distillery. YAMA means mountain. This gin with refreshing notes is of traditional style, with generous notes of citrus and herbs and a lively, zesty finish.

The botanical bouquet is made up of mountain plants from the Kobe region, such as Arima Sansho, green tea leaves from Kobe Shizukaen (Kobe's only tea plantation), juniper berries, green shiso, camphor wood, and yuzu.
