Tokubetsu Genteishu shochu 25% - 720 ml
- Matured in sherry and brandy casks
- As refined as a fine whisky
- Pairs with a wide range of meals
Born of rich, fertile land, an abundant supply of premium rice and the crystal-clear groundwater of the Kuma River, this authentic, entirely artisanal shochu, produced in Kumamoto on the island of Kyushu, offers a deep, mellow and complex flavour. Thanks to the distillery’s master blender, this distinctive rice shochu combines pure rice spirits aged in sherry and brandy casks, giving it extraordinary depth of character.
A word from Olivier, founder and sourcer
I love sipping this shochu with smoked fish or alongside a chocolate tart.

Description
Ohishi Shuzo distillery was founded in 1872 (Meiji year 5). It specialises in shochu. It is located in Mizukami village, Kuma district, Kumamoto prefecture, at the prefecture’s south-eastern edge on the border with Miyazaki prefecture, in an area where rice is grown in abundance. It uses pure water from the Kuma River and locally grown rice (some of the rice comes from the distillery’s own paddies).
Its rice shochu, renowned for its very high quality, carries the Kuma Shochu geographical indication.
“Tokubetsu” means “special”, indicating the use of a premium ingredient (such as highly polished rice) or a particular artisanal production method.
