The seeds were mainly used, until recently, for making an oil similar to linseed oil used for the manufacture of printing and painting ink.

It is now popular as a food, in the form of seeds or oil.

Egoma is rich in alpha-linolenic acid which is not produced by our bodies. This nutrient is one of the essential fatty acids beneficial to the human body.

It is recognised as an excellent substance because it can improve learning ability and sight, as well prevent arteriosclerosis and the formation of cancerous cells.

The cultivation of shiso egoma has been transformed as pesticides are now banned.

These seeds were grown in the mountainous area of Yastsuo, Toyama Prefecture.

You can use them to delicately perfume mixed salads, bread dough or cakes.
