Setoka oranges are a complex hybrid of several varieties, mainly from the cultivar kuchinotsu no. 37 (hybrid of kiyomi, and tangor, tangerine crossed with an orange).
This citrus fruit is a luxurious fruit in Japan, still quite rare, often offered as a gift in Japan to colleagues, family members and friends as a symbol of health and longevity. Setoka can be eaten whole, skin and pulp.
This fruit has a very thin skin, is generally seedless, pulpy and extremely juicy, with very pleasant flavors, very sweet (weak citric acid 0.8 to 1.0% only), sweet 12 to 13 degrees brix) and very aromatic (orange blossom notes).
Often called "O-toro" citrus, in reference to very fatty tuna, its juice is dense, thick, almost syrupy.
