The Shumei Natural Farm is located in Setana ( north of Japan on Hokkaido island ), a town well known for its splendid wild coastline and it fishermen but also for the Kariba mountains and its relatively mild climate ( influence of the warm Tsushima current in the Sea of Japan, very little snow).
In 2005, Mr Togashi, owner of the Shumei Natural Farm and encouraged by the recent regional incentives to develop rural economic activities, decided to develop ecological farming activities and in particular that of colza on ideally placed land opposite the sea.
This crop is grown according to traditional methods, in a healthy and natural environment, without any hint of pesticide nor chemical fertilizer. The soil is enriched with natural fertilizer based on grasses and leaves permanently enriching the soil.
The colza is harvested at the end of August by combine harvester.
