{"title":"Kumaya Shoten","description":"\u003cp\u003eWhole cedar is used and Kumaya Shoten is committed to the conservation and development of the forest resources of this region. Yoshino cedar belongs to the category of precious woods. Its cultivation, in the forest region of Yoshino, in the south-centre of Nara Prefecture, began during the Muromachi period (1336-1573), which saw the transplantation of cedar trees from Miwa to Yamato and onto Mount Kasuga. Yoshino cedar, a high-end cedar, is one of the three most beautiful forest trees in Japan alongside Akita cedar and Kiso cypress. Its durability, solidity and magnificent lustre have been acclaimed since the earliest times. Another unique advantage of Yoshino cedar is that it is low in knots. As Yoshino cedar is cultivated in plantation forests, the thickness of its trunk is almost the same from the root to the upper part, with few knots thanks to annual pruning. It is beautiful and displays fine, uniform annual rings and defined straight grain.
